JAY ANTZAKAS 1956 -2016
President and co-founder of Television by Design, Inc.

Jay Antzakas died peacefully on the afternoon of March 30, 2016, at Hospice Atlanta Center, after a brief illness.

Jay was born in Athens, Greece and was educated in Greece and France before immigrating to the United States in 1974 to attend the Ohio University of Broadcasting, where he earned a degree in radio and television station management.

Following graduation, he began his career as a video editor at WTCG, the fledgling cable station soon to become SuperStationWTBS. In 1983, he left Turner Broadcasting System to co-found Television by Design, an early leader in the emerging field of motion graphic design. During his 30 year career as president of TVbD, the company grew to include a client list of over 100 television stations and networks throughout North America.

His passions were television broadcasting, and all things related to commercial aviation. He enjoyed nothing more than traveling the world, especially if it involved a new Boeing aircraft or an as yet unseen airport. He had a brilliant mind, a loving heart, and was generous to a fault. He will be missed more than he ever realized.

Regarding Jay’s promise below to begin digitizing and posting TVbD selects, that task now falls to me.

I’m on it.

From Jay | 2014

As president of Television by Design, Inc. since its inception in January 1983, I have been privileged to work with many exceptional people on many excellent projects.

For our first 30 years we’ve been an award winning motion graphic design and consulting firm working with traditional Local Television Stations and Networks. We created and executed distinctive on-air presentation strategies, print and online identities and memorable broadcast news, program and promotional presentations.

Our designs have represented television station identities in over 130 television markets in the US, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. But much has changed in this time frame and we’ve been fortunate to witness a tremendous transformation in the way we acquire, process and transmit video and audio across a wide range of devices, screens and resolutions.

Going forward, I adjust our focus toward Special Projects in Media. I’ll be selectively applying the basic principles of “television” to create effective visual communications. I will also be doing some cleanup through the archives and will start posting selects here at tvbd.com.
